Begin your trip at the mouth of the mighty Fraser River and follow it through the abundant Fraser Valley, with its massive corn and flower fields, to Harrison Hot Springs. Continue your trip up the Fraser River and into the impressive Fraser Canyon. Learn how the ruggedness of the Canadian landscape created formidable challenges for early explorers at Hell’s Gate and learn about the importance of the region’s river system to the migrating salmon. You can also explore the mighty Fraser River via a white water rafting adventure. Venture northward along the Fraser River to Lillooet from where you will then take the Duffy Lake Road southward to Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish. Experience the lake country where mountainous roadways offer amazing vistas around each corner and where you can see alpine meadows in full bloom. As you pass through Whistler, be sure to take the time to experience a full variety of summer activities that this resort town offers for all members of the family, including golf, trail rides, backpacking, hiking and shopping. At one time Lillooet was the largest settlement in British Columbia. In fact, at the height of the BC Gold Rush in 1860, Lillooet was one of the largest urban centers west of Chicago. Its importance is evident in that it is the location of mile "0", marking the beginning of the famous Cariboo Trail. Miners and traders used this route into the interior and it was vitally important during the Cariboo Gold Rush. Lillooet is situated on the banks of the mighty Fraser River, affording visitors a wonderful display of nature's beauty. Those who arrive from the south either by rail or road are privy to some of B.C. most awe inspiring sights of everything from roaring river canyons to majestic mountains. |
